Pharmacy business register

The Council must maintain a publicly available register of pharmacy business licences.

A pharmacy business licence will appear on the register once it has been granted under the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024.  The register does not include the date the licence takes effect or the expiry date. When a licence ends, it will no longer appear on the register.

In some circumstances, two separate licences for the same pharmacy business may appear in the register for a short period.  This might occur during a change of ownership, where the outgoing owner holds a licence and the incoming owner has also been granted a licence.

The register contains the following information:

  • the name of the holder/s of the licence,
  • the pharmacy business name stated on the licence, and
  • the address of the licensed premises stated on the licence.

Licences that are currently suspended and licences that have been cancelled within the last two years will also be published.

Notification of temporary closure of licensed pharmacy business

If the holder/s of a pharmacy business licence is proposing to temporarily close the pharmacy business to the public for a period of more than one week, they must notify the Council. This must occur prior to the closure unless the licence holder has a reasonable excuse (e.g. due to an unexpected disaster event such as a cyclone or flood). The Council may publish information about temporary closures here.
