Important

Existing owners who are in the process of selling their pharmacy business must still apply for a licence if the sale of the business may not settle before the expiry of their pharmacy business licence. If this applies to you, please contact the Council to discuss the requirements for your application.

How to renew a pharmacy business licence

  1. Prior to the licence expiring, the Council will email licence holders directly with information on how to renew their licence and the application form.
  2. Licence holders and their representatives can use the Pharmacy Business Ownership Administration System (PBOAS) to submit the renewal application.
Please note that the Council no longer uses Kiteworks to receive application documents.
  3. Log in to PBOAS using your digital identity
  4. PBOAS login

  5. Create a ‘New Application’
  6. Select ‘Form 9: Application to renew a pharmacy business licence’ from the drop-down menu’ and the type of applicant. Follow the prompts, fill in the required fields and click ‘Save and Next’ as you move through the application.
  7. Upload the completed application form and relevant Fit and proper person details annexures at the end of the application in the section called ‘Document Upload’.
    • There are two Fit and proper person details annexures:
    • Each of the following persons must complete the applicable Fit and proper person details annexure:
      • each natural person applying to renew a pharmacy business licence (Fit and proper person details – Individual annexure)
      • each corporation applying to renew a pharmacy business licence (an executive officer of the corporation must complete the Fit and proper person details – Corporation annexure on behalf of the corporation); and
      • each director and shareholder of the corporation (Fit and proper person details – Individual annexure).
  8. Respond to requests from the Council (including payment and information requests) and await decision. An application will only be valid once all the necessary information has been provided and the application fee has been paid.

What happens if I do not apply for renewal in time

If a licence holder does not apply to renew a licence by the required date under the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024 (PBO Act), they may be operating an unlicensed pharmacy business. The PBO Act makes it an offence to carry on a pharmacy business without being licensed, meaning the owner may face compliance action including prosecution and potential penalties.  It may also impact the assessment of whether they are fit and proper persons to be granted a pharmacy business licence.

Failure to meet the required deadlines may also be taken into account when assessing future licence applications, potentially affecting the owner’s ability to obtain or renew a licence.

If you have not applied for renewal before your licence expiry date, you must contact the Council as soon as possible.
