Implementation of the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024
The Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024 is expected to come into effect in full by late 2025.

The Queensland Pharmacy Business Ownership Council (the Council) is an independent statutory body which will be responsible for regulating pharmacy business ownership in Queensland.
In March 2024, the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024 was passed by Parliament. When it commences in full, the new Act will:
- repeal and replace the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2001
- establish a licensing framework for the ownership of, and interests in, pharmacy businesses.
The Queensland Pharmacy Business Ownership Council was established on 1 September 2024. The Council will oversee implementation of the new Act.
When the new Act commences in full, the Council will be responsible for deciding applications for pharmacy business ownership and monitoring and enforcing compliance with the new Act.
