The Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024 (PBO Act) establishes the Queensland Pharmacy Business Ownership Council (Council) as a statutory body to regulate pharmacy business ownership in Queensland.

Under the PBO Act, the Council must have a minimum of five members including at least one pharmacy business owner and one employee pharmacist.

On 1 September 2024, ten members were appointed to the inaugural Council by Governor in Council.

The Council members come from a range of professional backgrounds, including pharmacy business owners and employee pharmacists.

The Council is responsible for deciding applications for pharmacy business ownership licences, keeping a register of licensed pharmacy businesses and monitoring and enforcing compliance with the PBO Act.
