The Pharmacy Business Ownership Act 2024 (the Act) establishes the Queensland Pharmacy Business Ownership Council (the Council) as a statutory body to regulate pharmacy business ownership in Queensland.

On 1 September 2024, ten members were appointed to the inaugural Council. They are:

  • Amy Ford
  • Adam Rodger
  • Brett Simmonds
  • Adela Ting Wei Tsang
  • Shana Valentine
  • Fiona Watson
  • Vassillis (Lucky) Zeniou

The Council members come from a range of professional backgrounds, including pharmacy business owners and employee pharmacists.  Read more about the Council members.

Initially the Council will oversee the implementation of the Act and support transition of regulatory functions from Queensland Health to the Council.

When the Act commences in full, the Council will be responsible for deciding applications for pharmacy business ownership licences, keeping a register of licensed pharmacy businesses and monitoring and enforcing compliance with the new Act.

The Act is expected to fully commence by late 2025.
